Richard Windle took over conducting Woodhouse in March 2018 after a difficult time for the band losing David Morris so suddenly in October 2017.

Richard started playing trombone aged 10 with Ireland Colliery band and remained there until he was 18 when he began studies at the University of Huddersfield.  After completing a degree in Music he joined the Grimethorpe Colliery Band and took part in numerous concerts and tours all over the world, following the success of “Brassed Off”.  Richard toured Australia, Japan, America and most of Europe with highlights playing in a sell-out performance at Carnegie Hall in New York, and an appearance on the Eurovision Song Contest.  Wow.
Richard has also played with Brighouse and Rastrick band and Carlton Main Frickley Colliery band.

Richard is also a successful teacher and educator and always prioritised the nurturing of new young brass players within his roles as Head of Music, Head of Performing Arts and Assistant Headteacher.  More recently Richard had a spell conducting Ireland Colliery, Chesterfield, the band where he started.
